PUPILS at a Kidderminster school are combining two of their favourite things – chocolate and Christmas – to put on a festive fair for parents and staff.

Year Three and Four pupils at Heronswood Primary School, Spennells, have spent weeks organising a chocolate-themed Christmas fair to celebrate the holiday season and raise money to buy learning equipment. It will take place at the school on Friday.

Having already enjoyed an informative trip to Cadbury World, children have studied the origins of chocolate and used English lessons to read stories based on chocolate and write their own.Season’s eatings: Heronswood Primary School pupils, from left, Lydia, 7, Rosey, 9, and Harry, 7, prepare for the chocolate-themed Christmas fair.

They have also created recipes to make their own chocolate bars, which they will be selling at the fair. The festive event will open after school for parents to attend and will feature a Santa’s grotto, tombola and other Christmas activities.

Headteacher Matthew Ascroft said: “What has been great has been early on in the topic the children knew there would be this focal point, so we had the trip and learnt about chocolate but we have had a long-term goal to get to the Christmas fair.

“They have really wanted to push their creativity. There was a team meeting to plan out how they approach the finer details of their fair – it really is in their hands.”

The school’s reception will perform a nativity play, Years One and Two will put on a play they have written themselves and Years five and six will take part in a carol concert.

Pupils have also helped produce a 2014 calendar, which will also be sold to raise money for school equipment.

Pupils have raised more than £1300 to buy new equipment at their Kidderminster School.

Youngsters at Heronswood Primary School, Spennells, collected £1356 at a chocolate-themed Christmas Fair organised and hosted by students at the start of December.

Parents were invited to the event and children raised money by selling chocolate bars they had created, holding a tombola and other Christmas activities including a Santa's grotto.

The money will be used to buy learning equipment for the school.
