Pupil Premium is additional Government funding given to schools in England to help raise the attainment of pupils with potentially increased vulnerability by developing strategies to close the learning gap with their peers and to eliminate any disparity in attainment.

The Government believes that the pupil premium funding, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current inequalities by giving schools autonomy to ensure it reaches the pupils who need it most.

Pupil Premium

As a school we receive a special pupil premium grant for every child in school who is or has been registered for Free School Meals, who is a Looked After Child and who has a parent in the armed forces.

Currently schools receive £1345 for each eligible primary-aged pupil who is registered for pupil premium.

At Heronswood the pupil premium grant is used to improve educational standards, support aspiration and narrow the gap in attainment between those children with potentially increased vulnerability in our community.

The additional money is used directly to fund additional support staff to work with small groups or on a 1-1 basis, additional resources which can be used during intervention sessions and personalised systems; to enhance our provision for the children towards improving their levels of progress and attainment.

Integral to this strategy are the benefits the funding brings for all pupils.  We carefully track all pupils who benefit from the additional provisions made.

If you think that your child may be eligible for Free School Meals (even if you prefer them to bring sandwiches) please claim your entitlement.  This entitlement will be confidential and your child will not be identified or discriminated against in any way but it will help to provide much needed additional funds for the school.  Full details on how to register a claim are available from Mrs Howles in the school office all enquiries will be treated in the strictest confidence.  Please see our Healthy Eating page for more details.
