Pupils at Heronswood Primary have been learning all about how to be model pedestrians, when they are out and about in Spennells.

Angie Cotton has worked alongside the school to educate children about how to stay safe and aware when using our roads and pavements while still enjoying their environment. The training is being offered as part of Worcestershire County Council’s commitment to reduce the number of accidents involving children in our area.

All year groups took part in safety talks using a mock-up road in the hall. Year 2 completed the ‘Step Outside’ programme and Year 4 ‘Stepping Out’ programme, which involved children gaining first-hand experience of using the roads around Spennells Estate.

“This training has been a valuable experience for all our pupils, enabling them to think carefully about the choices they make while using the roads and giving the older pupils confidence when crossing the roads independently.” Mrs Mikolajczyk, PSHE lead at Heronswood Primary School.
