Last week all the children from Heronswood Primary School celebrated World Book Day in style.  Every single child, across the whole school abandoned school uniform in favour of a book character costume instead.

The school was filled with a mass of characters from a whole range of books and it looked like the school had been invaded for the day.

During the day the children participated in a variety of fun activities which were all related to books.  These including baking cakes, creating posters, designing characters, making book marks etc.  The Head Teacher, Mr Ascroft, shared his favourite books in a whole school assembly before the children moved around the school, visiting all the classrooms to hear the teachers reading their favourite books as well.  During the day the children participated in a costume parade and we were delighted to have seven winners across the school.

In addition a huge number of our children brought in their own favourite books from home which they very kindly donated to Acorns Hospice.  These books will be shared and passed onto other children who are less fortunate and who can now experience the joy and escapism a good book can offer.

Mr Ascroft said, “Our children truly shine on days like these.  They thoroughly enjoy having the opportunity to be creative and immerse themselves in different activities.  Our parents too are so supportive and creative and some of the costumes we have seen this year have surpassed all others.”
