The parents of Heronswood Pre-School recently had the opportunity to enjoy two ‘Stay and Play’ sessions with their children.  Parents were invited in so that they could see the different types of learning activities that their children participate in on a daily basis.

The children loved showing what they enjoy doing in Pre-School and parents were able to spent time learning about their child’s day and the different learning areas within the setting. Parents were able to see how their child interacted with their peers and which activities and resources engaged them the most.

Since September 2015, Heronswood Pre-School has been situated within the main school building, of Heronswood Primary School, alongside the Reception classes; forming an Early Years Unit.   The pre-school children now enjoy a bright, stimulating and inviting learning environment where they can mix with reception children, as well as having their own dedicated spaces.

Mrs Rachel Ritter – EYFS lead teacher said, “We are now seeing the true benefits of building this strong alliance between school and pre-school.  We are already preparing our pre-school children for the transition into the main school by immersing them in phonics and early maths.  We have seen a very positive impact on the learning of all our children.”
