The Year 1 and Year 2 children from Heronswood Primary School joined their local Kidderminster Tesco Superstore for a fantastic ‘Farm to Fork Trail’ experience.

Children from Heronswood Primary School have been learning all about where food comes from in the classroom but were delighted when they had the opportunity to take a very special tour around Tesco’s, to see the food up close.

After sneaking behind the scenes the children learnt about the workings of a real life bakery.  Our budding bakers then created and baked their own individual loaves, which they excitedly took home for their tea.

The children were exposed to a realm of interesting experiences, including: witnessing the filleting of a fish; being chilled in the fridge freezer at -20ºC and a supermarket sweep down the fruit and vegetable aisle in search of a variety of produce from around the globe.

The exhausted children replenished their energy sources by tackling a large platter of delicious produce supplied by Tesco.   They tantalised their taste buds with a selection of breads, cheeses, seeds, fruits and vegetables – many children experiencing brand new tastes for the very first time!

“This was a truly fantastic opportunity for our future farmers.  We ended up taking 90 of our Year 1 and Year 2 children around Tesco’s and they had an amazing time and learnt so much in the process.   Thank you Tesco for funding this brilliant educational visit.”  Charlotte Bingham, Year 2 Teacher.
