The new Head of School, Mrs Pierpoint and Mark Garnier, the local Member of Parliament for Wyre Forest, officially opened the brand new, state-of-the-art building at Heronswood Primary School, on the Spennells estate this week.

This new wing has replaced the dilapidated community centre which stood adjacent to Tesco Spennells Express.

Since April last year, when Leons Building Services started work on site, the children and families of Heronswood have been waiting patiently for the new build to open; eagerly watching the progress week by week.  Seven months on and the Year 5 and Year 6 children are excited to be moving into their new classrooms. The classrooms are modern and bright and provide plenty of space to enable children to learn in the best possible environment.  In addition, there is also a brand new entrance area, lobby, library and wrap around facility.

In 2014, the Local Authority recognised that Heronswood Primary needed additional school places for children living within the Spennells estate and the surrounding catchment areas.  As a result, the number of places in Reception was increased from forty-five to sixty.  In order to facilitate the increase in pupil numbers, the number of classrooms within the school had to also be increased to accommodate all of the children.

Mrs Pierpoint, Head of School said, “Heronswood Primary is an amazing please to be.  Our children inspire us on a daily basis and we ensure they get the very best education - which excites and motivates them to love learning.  We are delighted with the new additions to our school and are so pleased to see the children taking a real pride in their new rooms.”

After his morning visit, Mark Garnier added: “It was a real pleasure to be able to help open the new classrooms. Heronswood is a school that I have worked with over the last few years and it is a school that has done amazing things during that time. I am so pleased to see them doing so well and the school is a prize asset for both Spennells and Wyre Forest.”

Kate Brunt, Executive Head said, “We were delighted when Heronswood Primary School joined our Rivers Multi Academy Trust just over a year ago.  The children at Heronswood are so keen to learn and always display excellent learning behaviours.  All the teachers and support staff ensure every child reaches their full potential in every way.”
