Children in RLS had great fun visiting Spennells Valley to kick start their Journeys topic.

Miss Shaw’s class had been visited by Mr Squirrel who asked them to hunt for a number of things whilst on their journey. Mr Squirrel needed the children to find somewhere for him to sleep, something for him to eat and drink and any friends for him to play with.

The children hunted high and low and found a great nook in a tree and thought that the autumnal leaves would make a super bed for him. Some children found big leaves for the bed, medium sized leaves for the quilt cover and small leaves for the pillow! The children also found a stream where he could get a drink and have a bath and lots of berries for his dinner. They could also hear the birds singing sweetly in the trees and thought that Mr Squirrel would enjoy playing with them in the branches

When we got back to school the children looked at the pictures they had taken on their journey of the places they had been and the things they had found and used great descriptive language. Following our journey the children had their first go at creating a story map to retell the journey they went on through the use of pictures. The children thoroughly enjoyed making these and have since shared them with other children in school, teachers and governors.

The children cannot wait to go on a journey again… I wonder where they will go next?!
