Ghosts and ghouls were wondering through Spennells Valley Nature Reserve when the whole of Heronswood Primary School went on a sponsored walk in their fancy dress costumes.  Heronswood Primary School Council wanted to find a unique way to raise money for school funds and decided that they would do this by utilising the local area, whilst keeping fit at the same time!

The School Council at Heronswood, which consists of representatives from every class in the school, came up with the idea themselves.  They then organised the whole event: including writing letters to the parents and making the sponsorship forms.

Head Girl, Rosie Millward and Head Boy, Daniel Simms along with Clayton Littleton and Robert Boucher planned out the route for the walk.  They researched the area using a map and then they walked the route where they even spotted potential hazards.  The children then helped to write the risk assessment and looked for ways to ensure the children could avoid these and stay safe.

“The School Council took total ownership of this project from deciding upon an idea, to mapping out the route and risk assessment. It was a successful and enjoyable activity and the pupils gained knowledge of their local area whilst taking exercise and raising money for a good cause.  We are very proud of them.” (School Council Teacher, Mrs Mikolajczyk)
