Year 3 and 4 children at Heronswood Primary School brought their curriculum to life through a drama workshop designed by Freshwater Theatre Company.

The professional theatre company hooked the children into their new topic, ‘Wonder At The World’ through a range of interactive drama activities in a ‘Let’s Locate – Continents’ workshop.

The children started off their journey of imagination by packing up their explorer bags and setting off on their adventure! They travelled to Europe on the Eurostar and met delegates from other European countries. Key geographical facts were explored and learnt as the children physically mapped out Europe to meet their neighbouring countries. A range of games were played to help the children to learn different languages and facts, in a fun and very interactive way.

North & South America were the final destinations of the very long journey which crossed over all the continents. The children improved their presenting, speaking & listening skills by preparing a persuasive TV advert in groups based on a particular country of their choice.

Year 4 pupil Josh Green said, ‘I loved making the world out of us because it helped me to learn where the countries were.’

Year 4 pupil Ava Rogers said, ‘I learnt how to say hello in different languages and learnt where places were. My favourite part was when we made a TV advert on Argentina.’

The Year 3 & 4 team commented that, ‘The drama workshops provided the children with an engaging, memorable experience that enthused them and inspired them to learn about their new topic. It was a fun way to kick start their learning and ignite their curiosity.’
