Children in Years 5 and 6 at Heronswood Primary School have embarked on a spy based topic and for the past 4 weeks have been living double lives; Heronswood Pupils and Special Agents!

During the course of the topic the children have solved a murder, learned about forensic science, investigated a crime scene and taken finger prints.  Their latest assignment has proved to be very challenging – To design and make a water/air pressured rocket.

Assignment 4: Water and Air pressure rockets

Year 5/6 NR received assignment 4 it said; “You have to make an air and water pressure rocket in pairs.”

First we had to plan and design our rockets. We received plastic bottles that we decorated and we put wings, tails and a cockpit on. When we made our rockets we had to make them original and use our creativity to make the rockets individual. When we were making the rockets some people got really frustrated because certain things were very hard to attach on to the rocket such as: the wings tail and nose cone.

We then decided how much water to add to the rocket to act as the thrust. Finally, it was time to test them! Some rockets went really well and some of them got destroyed. Miss Ralph launched the rockets by pumping water into the base. When the pressure had built up, the cork and water were thrust downwards and the rocket flew upwards. Mr A also got his best suit soaked!

“Our favourite part was launching the rockets because it was great to see the different reactions of the class.” Taylor and Vlad 5/6 NR.
