Heronswood Primary school is situated on the outskirts of Kidderminster, in the middle of Spennells Valley; right at the heart of the community.  There has been a school on this site since Spennells First School originally opened in 1981.  In September 2007, as part of the Wyre Forest review, Heronswood Primary School opened.  In October 2014 Heronswood converted to an academy and joined The Rivers Multi Academy Trust.

Our school and Pre-School caters for children aged between 3 to 11 from Spennells Valley and the surrounding areas.  We currently have just over three hundred children who attend the school and a further 50 children registered in our Pre-School.

There are 13 classes across our school from Pre-School up to Year 6.  On average we have 45 children in each year group but this was increased to 60 children in September 2014; to meet the increased demands for places in the local area.  This increase will,  gradually over time, enable all of our classes to be pure year groups and there will no longer be the need for mixed year group classes.

The school day starts at 8:35am where our children go straight into their classes, from the playground, into an Earlybird activity.  This activity is personalised to the needs of individual children in the class.  For some it might be practicing a skill they have yet to master, for others it might be recapping something from the previous day and for others it might be about reflecting on previous learning and looking for ways to improve and further their learning.

This is one of the main reasons why our children need to be in school on time every day.

School finishes at 3:15pm for all children but we don’t expect their learning to end at this point.  To ensure our children have the very best start in life we need parents to embark in a learning partnership with us.  To help children reach their full potential we need parental support in helping children to complete their homework, their spellings, their reading, their times tables, their number bonds, their projects and any other additional tasks.  Look out for the ‘Unlocking Learning’ symbol on the Class Pages and in the Parent Info section.
