The Head Teacher, Mrs Pierpoint along with Peter Dyke and Marcus Hart, officially opened the brand new, state-of-the-art building at Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School, on the Spennells estate last week.

This new wing has replaced the old mobile classrooms which were temporarily added to the school site, over 10 years ago.

Since November last year, when TCG Contractors Limited started work on site, the children and families of Heronswood and Spennells have been waiting patiently for the new build to open; eagerly watching the progress week by week.  Seven months on and the Year 1 and Year 2 children are excited to be moving into their new rooms. The classrooms are modern and bright and provide plenty of space to enable children to learn in the best possible environment.  In addition, there is also a brand new entrance area and cloakroom, new toilet block and a new intervention space for the children to use.

In 2014, the Local Authority recognised that Heronswood Primary needed additional school places for children living within the Spennells estate and the surrounding catchment areas.  As a result Heronswood now has pure classes across the school and has the space to take 60 children in each year group.

Mrs Pierpoint, Head Teacher said, “Heronswood Primary is an amazing please to be.  Our children inspire us on a daily basis and we ensure they get the very best education - which excites and motivates them to love learning.  We are delighted with the new additions to our school and are so pleased to see the children taking a real pride in their new rooms.  We are in such a fortunate place as we have now had eight brand new classrooms over the last three years.”

This academic year also saw Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School celebrating its fantastic Ofsted result in September, where the school was awarded Good with two areas of Outstanding.  Mrs Pierpoint, Head Teacher said, “We are very proud of our latest report and all the hard work, dedication and commitment from our team of staff who have made it possible.  We know our children receive an excellent education at Heronswood but to have it verified by the Ofsted team who visited us, is the icing on the cake.  We will now continue to strive for Outstanding across all areas.”

Parents are equally proud of this fantastic school. They shared with the inspectors, “This is the best the school has ever been,” and were keen to communicate that staff “go above and beyond to support their children.”

In particular the school are exceptionally proud of being awarded OUTSTANDING in two areas.  Firstly in Leadership and Management and secondly in Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare.  This is the first Ofsted visit since the school converted to an academy in October 2014, where Heronswood joined with The Rivers CofE Multi Academy Trust.

Mrs Hayes, the Lead Inspector reported that, “Current senior leaders have energetically and systematically transformed the school’s culture.  Pupils and staff alike are proud to be associated with the school. It is a happy, interesting and worthwhile place to be.”

Mrs Round, a Year 6 parent said, “The improvements at Heronswood Primary School have exceeded all my expectations. Heronswood is a school that I'm proud to send my daughter to. The teachers go above and beyond what's expected of them and provide a happy, positive learning environment, where children thrive. The Ofsted rating of 'good' is definitely well deserved and a result of incredible hard work and commitment.”

Kate Brunt, Executive Head said, “We were delighted when Heronswood Primary School joined our Rivers Multi Academy Trust in 2014.  The children at Heronswood are so keen to learn and always display excellent learning behaviours.  All the teachers and support staff ensure every child reaches their full potential in every way.  This latest Ofsted report has confirmed what we already knew about Heronswood.  So many schools are in turmoil and to see that Heronswood has remained Good and also been awarded Outstanding is phenomenal in this current climate.”

If you would like to come along and see the wonderful school that Heronswood has become then please visit them on their open days.  The first is on Tuesday 26th June at 9:00am-1:00pm and then again on Thursday 28th June at 1:00pm-7:00pm.  If you would like to visit then please pop along during the specified times.  Alternatively please call the school office on 01562 69750 to arrange a convenient time to visit.
