On Tuesday 27th June, Rivers CE Academy held an RE day at Great Witley Church. Two children from each of the Rivers schools came along to join in with the activities.

Kerry Geddis, Deputy Head from Great Witley explains the day:

The day started with a 'Skittle' prayer. Each of the children took a Skittle sweet, said a private prayer and then put their skittle around the edge of a plate. A teacher then poured hot water over the skittles and before our very eyes the colours made a beautiful rainbow pattern as we thought about what we had prayed about. It was a wonderful moment of awe and wonder.

Next we had a tour of the church. Angela Snow who is church warden and co-ordinates group visits, talked to us all about the history of the church and its main features. She even took us down to the crypt which was very fascinating. Angela talked to us in detail about the stained glass windows which led us on to our next activity. We talked about the Rivers School Values and then each school made 5 stained glass stars, one for each of the values which are sharing, trust, achievement, respect and safety. The idea been that they would be made into a mobile to hang back in each school.

The weather was kind to us and we even managed to have a picnic lunch in the church grounds. The children from the different schools got to know each other really well and it was great to see them chatting and mixing well together.

The day was a real success, as well as promoting RE and the Rivers Values with children in the academy, the children also got to make new friends in a perfect venue. The feedback which came back from the individual schools was that the children were buzzing about the day and were very keen to share what they had done with other children back at school.
